EDGEWOOD ENTERTAINMENT: Egoísta

Tony winning producer Dale A. Mott of Edgewood Entertainment presents a workshop of Erlina Ortiz's new comedy Egoísta. Starring Dascha Polanco (Orange is the New Black) and Diane Guerrero (Orange is the New Black), the June 26 reading will be directed by Tatyana-Marie Carlo.

Winner of the 2022 National Latine Playwriting Award, Egoísta is a comedy that explores sisterhood, caregiving, grief, ambition, and the impossible balancing act between pursuing your dreams and showing up for the people you love. The play follows Josefina (Polanco), a rising comic whose career begins to take off just as she is pulled into caring for her chronically ill younger sister, Betsaida (Guerrero). As the sisters navigate obligation, resentment, sacrifice, humor, and survival, both are forced to confront their fragile yet enduring bond.

RHODE ISLAND LATINO ARTS: La Broa en tu barrio

Teatro en El Verano returns this summer, with a newly adapted version of La Broa’ — the one and only play that premiered on the stage at Trinity Rep in 2024. The stories are based on oral histories collected by Marta V. Martínez and brought to the stage by playwright Orlando Hernández, directed by Lorraine Guerra. Inspired by the stories that shaped Broad Street and the early Colombian families rooted in Central Falls, this production (which we’re calling La Broa’ en tu barrio) is in line with our goal in 2026 of celebrating the voices, histories, and everyday heroes of Rhode Island’s Latino communities.
